Event Description: A virtual panel discussion during Black History Month and Office of Career Services' Entertainment Law Week with music industry professionals centered on the structure of the legal field within the industry and diversity in practice. The panel will discuss the various legal roles that individuals could pursue within the industry, highlighting the differences between transactional and litigation work as well as the differences between in-house vs. law firm experiences. Additionally, we will discuss inclusion within legal departments and the industry as a whole, with a focus on topics such as underrepresentation in executive roles, any relevant initiatives companies have adopted, and various challenges faced by underrepresented groups. Questions to explore will include: What role, if any, do attorneys play in this implementation? What is it actually like working in music? What have you learned along the way? Then finally, we will wrap with advice for current law students looking to break into the music/entertainment practice.
