Have you heard of artists in Hollywood going on strike? Guild minimums and requirements in contractual agreements? The SAG Awards? The "Basic Agreement"?
The Cardozo Entertainment Law Society & FAME Center invite you to join us for a very special conversation with Justin Touretz, who serves as the Associate General Counsel for The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). SAG-AFTRA is the preeminent American labor union representing approximately 160,000 film and television actors and other performers.
Mr. Touretz will provide an overview of guilds, explain how and why SAG-AFTRA works, and provide further detail about his role at SAG-AFTRA. The conversation will focus on how guilds--and we, as future lawyers--can and do support and advocate for artists, and how problems arise. These are important topics for anyone interested in entertainment law to be familiar with and understand, as the notion of guilds is present in nearly every single entertainment transaction and often in the shadows of litigation.
