Feuerstein '79 Please join the Law School community to remember and pay tribute to the life of Judge Sandra J. Feuerstein ’79. All are welcome to attend via registration link below. Beloved Cardozo alumna U.S. District Court Judge Sandra Feuerstein, 75, who presided over federal cases in Central Islip for nearly 20 years, died after being struck in a hit-and-run car accident in Boca Raton, Florida on April 9. She was an integral member of the Cardozo community from the Law School’s first graduated class. She became a member of the Cardozo Board of Overseers in 2001 and was named an Honorary Member in 2009. Judge Feuerstein fostered strong relationships with students, many of whom she mentored and hired. She had a phenomenally impressive career and was Cardozo’s first federal judge. Judge Feuerstein touched the lives of many and will be missed by all. We will open with remarks by Dean Melanie Leslie and other members of the Law School community. We cannot award CLE credits for watching a recorded version of this program.” The panel will focus on the impact of mass incarceration on New Yorkers serving the longest sentences and discuss the need for meaningful reform in the areas of parole, compassionate release, and clemency, as well as how carceral policies have increased the vulnerabilities of these individuals during the Covid-19 pandemic.
