Law360 covered the work of the Criminal Defense Clinic to petition Governor Kathy Hochul to grant clemency to Joaquin Winfield.
“We felt the need to do whatever we could on his behalf,” said Co-Director of the Criminal Defense Clinic Professor Kathryn Miller about the client who is serving 35 years to life for a non-violent drug conviction under the now repealed Rockefeller drug laws.
Miller worked on the clemency application alongside Co-Director of the Criminal Defense Clinic Professor Jonathan Oberman and a team of Cardozo students and alumni. The alumni involved with the case are Tziona Breitbart ’21, Jenna Dunton ’22, Alison Goldman ’21, Michael Gorodetsky ’21 and Isabelle Schwartz ’22, with 3L students Brandon Boschi, Rebecca M.
