    Trademarks in the Metaverse

    The metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. The metaverse allows consumers to engage with others, attend events, and purchase goods for their avatars, such as digital clothing and accessories. Brands are facing a new challenge– how to protect their trademarks in the metaverse. Recently, we have seen a few companies apply for trademark applications for use of their trademarks for “store services featuring virtual clothing and accessories for use in online virtual worlds” and “for online, non-downloadable virtual clothing and accessories for use in virtual environments.” This event will discuss which companies have applied for trademarks in the metaverse, the need for it, how to apply for it (i.e., International Classes and goods/services descriptions), and what protections brands currently have absent a trademark (i.e., how the current law translates to metaverse use).   REGISTER yeshiva-university.zoom.us…

    Join Professor Saurabh Vishnubhakat as he welcomes Katherine E. Lewis, Partner and Director of Innovative Ventures at the law firm of Meister Seelig & Fein LLP for a fireside chat. Katherine E. Lewis concentrates her practice on the intersection of information technology and data privacy and security compliance. She counsels a variety of U.S.-based and international enterprise and startup technology firms across a multitude of industries. She advises clients on a variety of information technology, data privacy, data security and intellectual property matters with a special emphasis on developing, monetizing, and licensing software and technology.
