
The Cardozo Dispute Resolution Society (CDRS) hosted its Inaugural Arbitration Day on September 12, 2023. Members of CDRS organized an event for students to learn about the arbitration process, current trends, and career pathways in the field. Speakers included Jeffrey Zaino, Vice-President of AAA-ICDR, Betsy Hellmann, Arbitration Counsel at Skadden, Charles Moxley, Arbitrator from Moxley ADR, and Luis Martinez, Vice-President ICDR. The event concluded with a networking reception where students networked with Cardozo alumni in the arbitration field.
On October 17, 2023, CDRS partnered with the Black Law Student Association, the Entertainment Law Society, and the Sports Law Society to present "Black Excellence in the Spotlight." The event featured agents and attorneys discussing strategies for negotiating fair deals on behalf of Black athletes and entertainers. Lauren Woods, ’25, moderated the panel, which included panelists Aliya Nelson, ’01, Greenspoon Marder, Megan Brown, ’11, Amazon Studios, Traci Wilkes Smith, CSE Talent Agency, and Jaia Thomson, Diverse Representation.
Later in the fall, CDRS co-sponsored an event entitled, “Economics of Technology change: WGA, SAG-AFTRA & UAW Strikes” which discussed the impact of the strikes by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the United Auto Workers (UAW). Panelists included, Professor Michelle Greenberg-Kobrin, Professor David J. Weisenfeld, Ben Dictor, ’12, Eisner Dictor & Lamadrid, P.C., Darren Rumack, The Klein Law Group, and Teresa Poor, Director, National Labor Relations Board Region 29. Co-sponsors included the Labor and Employment Law Society and the Entertainment Law Society, and the event took place on October 18, 2023.
