We condemn the unspeakable tragedy in Atlanta yesterday, in which eight people died at the hands of a 21-year-old gunman. Six of the victims were women of Asian descent. The rise in anti-Asian discrimination and crimes during the coronavirus pandemic has already had a traumatic impact on that community. We mourn for the victims and extend our deep condolences to their grieving families and to the Asian-American community already reeling from high levels of racist attacks. These senseless killings force us all to confront the realities of hate, discrimination and racial violence as real and present dangers.
“We stand in solidarity against racist violence and in support of the Asian-American community and all those grieving for their loved ones today,” said Dean Melanie Leslie.
