Cardozo School of Law is pleased to announce that Sasha Rubman '21 has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Mark Whitlock Scholarship.
The Whitlock Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Mark Whitlock '10, who passed away from brain cancer while a student at Cardozo. Mark's family sought to celebrate Mark’s joyous spirit and vitality by creating this scholarship. It is designed to recognize an outstanding, third-year J.D. student each year who, through the force of individual effort, energy, spirit, and initiative, contributes to and/or expands and strengthens student life and community at Cardozo.
Sasha’s warmth and inclusive spirit are well-known amongst the Cardozo community through her involvement as President of OUTlaw, Senior Staff Editor and Board Member of Moot Court Honor Society, Treasurer of the Student Bar Association (SBA), Student Admissions Representative, and Gates Ambassador for our inaugural Gates Scholars Program. Of particular import to the committee were the accounts of Sasha’s efforts to mentor, encourage, and positively impact her fellow students. To quote her nominators: “She maintains a compassionate and considerate heart. She listens to those she leads and ensures that all voices are heard.” “She has found every way to make Cardozo a more inclusive place, and to uplift and support peers in their endeavors.” “Not only is Sasha an incredible asset to our school, but she’s also an incredible friend. I am forever grateful to her for her kindness and friendship and for her commitment to bringing out the best in her Cardozo colleagues.
Rubman said, “I am so honored to serve this community and so humbled to have been selected as a student who carries on the incredible legacy of Mark Whitlock.”
