Camila Lopez ’19 has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the Mark Whitlock Scholarship.
The Whitlock Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Mark Whitlock '10, who passed away from brain cancer when he was a student at Cardozo. Mark’s family sought to celebrate his life and honor his spirit with this scholarship. It is designed to recognize an outstanding third-year J.D. student who, through the force of individual effort, energy, spirit and initiative, contributes to and/or expands and strengthens student life and community at Cardozo.
This year's scholarship recognizes Camila’s spirited efforts on behalf of her fellow students. Among her many achievements, Camila served as a student ambassador to the NYC City Bar Association, bringing the National Latino Law Student Association Annual Moot Court Competition to Cardozo. Camila is fluent in Spanish and served as the alumni chair for LALSA, and as the Managing Editor for the ADR Competition Honor Society. She also volunteered with the Courtroom Advocates Project.
The Committee took notice of Camila’s efforts to mentor, encourage and positively impact the student body as a whole. To quote her nominators: “It is rare to meet people who truly care and Cami truly cares about making Cardozo a better place... Her actions are a true testament to her character. Camila cares about people, and she does the work most won’t do to show it.”
