Bet Tzedek hosts pop-up clinic for SAGE
On Wednesday, July 8, students of Cardozo's Bet Tzedek Civil Litigation Clinic held an Advanced Directives Pop-Up Clinic for members of SAGE, the nation’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. The Pop-Up Clinic was held via Zoom, enabling SAGE members to participate from their homes.
Bet Tzedek students Zachary Kriesberg, Emily Balan, and Eric Markovits gave a PowerPoint presentation on Health Care Proxies and Powers of Attorney. Eight additional students, who had been trained in advanced directives, used “breakout rooms” to provide individual counseling to the participants. The Clinic also offered participants the opportunity to execute the directives virtually under special COVID-19 procedures that permit remote witnessing and notarization of documents.
“We learned a lot in the process of preparing for and delivering the workshop. We were able to provide important information and offer meaningful counseling to the participants so that they can ensure that their wishes are followed,” said Bet Tzedek legal intern Zachary Kriesberg.
