Adjunct Professor Justin Braun, Senior Appellate Attorney for the Bronx County District Attorney's Office received the award for Prosecutor of the Year, Appellate Advocacy, by the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute. He was presented with the award July 13, 2019, in Cooperstown, New York.
Braun supervises, edits, and conferences with colleagues in his office at all levels of prosecution, serves on the DAASNY Mental Health Law Sub-committee, and has litigated several high profile cases in his own capacity; as yet, he has not lost in the New York Court of Appeals or the Second Circuit, and has garnered reversals from lower adverse appellate decisions at both the state and federal level. As inscribed on the award: "The Prosecutor of the Year, Appellate Advocacy Award, is given to a Prosecutor who has demonstrated outstanding appellate advocacy skills, leadership, and selfless dedication to the field of criminal prosecution in the Empire State."
Professor Leslie Newman, Cardozo’s director of Lawyering and Legal Writing, said, “Professor Justin Braun, who graduated from Cardozo in 2007, is in his sixth year of teaching Lawyering and Legal Writing here. In the past two years, he has taught Remedies and the Law, as well as Legal Analytic Methods, in our bar support program. Professor Braun is a master teacher and a consummate colleague.”
