Title: Legislating the Unimaginable: Six Legal Frontiers from Dream Decoding to Self-Funding AI
Abstract:
Emerging technologies are outrunning the legal frameworks meant to govern them. This talk surveys six domains where the law has barely begun to catch up: neural decoding of dreams and mental content, predictive profiling before individuals act, de-extinction, synthetic memory implantation, wholesale genome refactoring, and autonomous AI agents that earn and spend without human oversight. Each raises hard questions cutting across privacy, personhood, property, and constitutional law.
Rather than offering settled answers, the session maps regulatory gaps and hopes to launch conversations about a long-term paired research initiative between Cardozo and the Zvi Meitar Institute at Reichman University, giving students at both institutions the opportunity to co-author scholarship on whichever frontier they find most urgent.
Professor Dov Greenbaum directs Reichman University’s Zvi Meitar Institute for Legal Implications of Emerging Technologies and is an adjunct professor at Yale University in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. Dr. Greenbaum holds degrees and postdocs from Yeshiva University, Yale, UC-Berkeley, Stanford, and ETH Zurich. His doctoral research focused on informatics and big data. Before academia, he practiced law in Silicon Valley and in Israel.
