Julia P. Kuan (Partner, Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel LLP) and Professors Alex Reinert and Betsy Ginsberg will serve as mock judges for Keegan Stephan (Associate, Beldock Levine & Hoffman LLP; Cardozo School of Law, Class of 2019), an attorney who will be arguing an appeal on behalf of the plaintiff in Linton v. Zorn, which is currently pending in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (Case No. 22-2954).
The issue in this case is whether the defendant is entitled to qualified immunity for using excessive force against the plaintiff, causing permanent wrist and shoulder injuries, during a protest outside the Vermont statehouse.
Lawyers use mooting sessions to prepare for oral arguments, and the Center for Rights and Justice regularly schedules these sessions in important civil rights cases. After the mock judges ask Mr. Stephan questions and provide feedback, some of them will remain in the Moot Court Room to answer any questions you may have about the case and the issues.
If you attend this moot, you must treat as confidential anything discussed at the moot. You may not attend this event if you are currently interning or working for the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Vermont or for the Vermont State Police.
