Judge De Jesus was appointed to the New York State Court of Claims in June 2024 and has been designated as an Acting Justice in the New York State Supreme Court, Criminal Term. She currently presides over the Brooklyn Treatment Court, which provides court-monitored treatment as an alternative to incarceration to individuals arrested for certain offenses and who have underlying substance use disorders.
Prior to her appointment, she served as a court attorney with the New York City Criminal and Civil Courts and the New York State Supreme Court, Civil Term. Her responsibilities included researching complex legal issues, drafting memoranda and decisions, conducting conferences, coordinating assignments to other judges and court attorneys, and enacting court-wide operational policies.
Judge De Jesus began her legal career as a trial attorney with the Criminal Defense Practice of the Legal Aid Society. For nearly a decade, she advocated on behalf of thousands of individuals charged with crimes in Bronx County. Her work included extensive case investigation, hearings and trials, and post-conviction litigation.
Judge De Jesus received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis and her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School. She is a member of the Asian American Judges Association of New York, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and the National Filipino American Lawyers Association.
