Joseph Gutmann is a Senior Associate at Nathan & Kamionski LLP with a focus in commercial and civil rights litigation. Prior to joining Nathan & Kamionski, Mr. Gutmann worked as a Senior Counsel in the Special Federal Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department. In that capacity, he defended the City of New York and its employees from civil rights lawsuits brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Section 1983. Mr. Gutmann has significant federal trial experience having been defense counsel on behalf of the City in numerous federal trials in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Mr. Gutmann graduated from the City University of New York – Queens College in 2010, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2013. Mr. Gutmann has clerked for the Hon. James Orenstein and the Hon. I. Leo Glasser, both of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. In his spare time, Mr. Gutmann participates in a variety of trivia events, both competitive and recreational, and he enjoys playing board games and hockey when the opportunities arise as well.
