Prior to joining the Office of Career Services, Genia spent almost a decade at the Immigrant Defense Project where she held various roles including directing IDP’s Hotline, developing resources for community members and attorneys, advising on the immigration impacts of criminal cases, and tracking ICE raids trends and tactics. Genia came to IDP from The Bronx Defenders where she represented noncitizen clients in affirmative and defensive immigration cases. She has trained thousands of community members, attorneys, and elected officials on the overlap of criminal and immigration systems and “Know Your Rights” during encounters with ICE. Throughout her career, Genia has mentored law students and attorneys as they navigate their own career paths. As an artist, she also facilitates spaces to introduce creative practices for others working in legal fields. Genia is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Hampshire College.
