Professor Gary Galperin was an Assistant District Attorney in New York County until 2024 where he investigated and prosecuted thousands of cases ranging from petty offenses to homicides and enterprise corruption. He served in several supervisory and executive positions, and most recently was Senior Investigative Counsel in the Rackets Bureau, focusing mainly on crimes of terrorism and organized crime. Professor Galperin has taught, judged various competitions, mentored countless Cardozo students and otherwise been an active, regular presence on campus for over three decades. The Prosecutor Practicum, the full-time, one-semester clinical program which he long ran for students who intern at the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, is one of Cardozo's longest running clinics. He currently teaches Evidence, and seminars in criminal justice and forensic psychiatry/psychology. He has been a faculty member of ITAP since its inception, and serves as the Evidence Coach for the Trial Team. Professor Galperin's contributions to public service have been recognized by the District Attorney New York Association and by Cardozo's own INSPIRE! and Distinguished Alumnus Awards. Students have honored him with the Best Adjunct Professor Award on multiple occasions, including, most recently, in 2018 and 2020. Professor Galperin also received the Dean's Award for Distinguished Service in 2023. He is a proud member of Cardozo's second graduating class.
