    FLS Spring Advertising Symposium

    https://cardozo.yu.edu/events/fls-spring-advertising-symposium
    Apr 12, 2021

The FAME Center, the Entertainment Law Society, and the Fashion Law Society invite you to join us for our Advertising Law Symposium. The Symposium will offer discussion and skill-based approaches on topics such as tackling the transactional, deal-making side of advertising; best practices for mitigation of risk; analyzing the changing landscape of marketing with the influx of influencers, sweepstakes, contests, and co-branded sponsorships; and reviewing the ramifications of new privacy laws and regulations coming into effect that attempt to thwart modern advertising efforts—with the legal perspective in mind.2-2:10pm | Opening remarks2:10-3:25pm: | Panel #1: What You Need to Know About Digital Marketing: Influencers, Contests, and Co-Branded Sponsorships (1.5 CLE credits, Professional Practice)In the last decade, advertising has seen a shift from print and TV ads to online and social media marketing, and from the use of celebrity talent and endorsers to social media influencers that appeal to a more narrowly targeted consumer base. There has also been an increase in experiential activations and a rise in co-branded sponsorships. What legal liabilities has this shift presented? This panel will begin by discussing what is being done in the legal realm to adjust to this new reality. Then, it will review regulatory concerns posed by different media formats, recent agency actions that have been taken, and comment on where regulation is headed in the future. Panelists: Robert Freund, Founder, Robert Freund LawDouglas Hand, Partner, Hand Baldachin & Associates LLPFrancesca Witzburg '14, Partner, Loza & Loza LLPAlex Wynn '12,  Counsel, Lion Re:SourcesModerated by: Olivera Medenica, Partner, Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller LLP3:25-4:00pm | Break and networking4:00-5:15pm | Panel #2: The U.S. & EU Privacy Landscape: The Limits of Digital Marketing (1.5 CLE credits, Professional Practice)Technology giants like Facebook and Google have been criticized in the media for overusing users’ data. In the last three years, many countries and states have been working to protect their citizens’ privacy by enacting laws—the most sweeping among them being the GDPR in the EU and the CPRA in California and CDPA in Virginia. Have these rules changed the way people are targeted in advertising? Have they decreased companies’ use of your data? What about children’s privacy—with the rise of kidfluencers and TikTok, is COPPA strong enough to protect kids? This panel will analyze the current state of privacy protection in relation to the advertising and marketing industry, and will discuss the implications around adults and children, as well as the direction the industry is heading in. Panelists:  Olamide Michelle Imoukhuede, Founder, OMI Legal LLCGedas Ramanauskas, Global Privacy Director, Senior Counsel at TapestryRachel Waranch '05, Managing Counsel at CHANEL5:15-6:00pm | Closing remarks and networkingThis online event is approved for 3.0 transitional/non-transitional New York State CLE credits in the category “Areas of Professional Practice.” You must attend the “live” program in order to receive CLE credits. We cannot award CLE credits for watching a recorded version of this program. Registration: adlawsymposium.eventbrite.com Contact:cardozofashionlawsociety@gmail.com Sponsoring Organizations: FAME Center,  Fashion Law Society, and Entertainment Law Society

    Q

I received my degree outside the US. Are there different application procedures?

    A

Applicants with degrees conferred by institutions outside the US, Puerto Rico, or Canada are required to take the Law School Admission Test and must consult with LSAC regarding registration for the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). All foreign transcripts must be submitted through the LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service. If you completed any postsecondary work outside the US (including its territories) or Canada, you must use this service for the evaluation of your foreign transcripts. The one exception to this requirement is if you completed the foreign work through a study abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a US or Canadian institution, and the work is clearly indicated as such on the home campus transcript. This service is included in the LSDAS subscription fee. A Foreign Credential Evaluation will be completed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated into your LSDAS report. Questions about the JD Credential Assembly Service should be directed to LSAC at 215-968-1001.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is not required.

    Trademarks in the Metaverse

    https://cardozo.yu.edu/events/trademarks-metaverse
    Mar 03, 2022

The metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. The metaverse allows consumers to engage with others, attend events, and purchase goods for their avatars, such as digital clothing and accessories. Brands are facing a new challenge– how to protect their trademarks in the metaverse. Recently, we have seen a few companies apply for trademark applications for use of their trademarks for “store services featuring virtual clothing and accessories for use in online virtual worlds” and “for online, non-downloadable virtual clothing and accessories for use in virtual environments.” This event will discuss which companies have applied for trademarks in the metaverse, the need for it, how to apply for it (i.e., International Classes and goods/services descriptions), and what protections brands currently have absent a trademark (i.e., how the current law translates to metaverse use).   REGISTER yeshiva-university.zoom.us…
