Zalman Rothschild, Horn Family Distinguished Research Scholar in Law and Religion and Assistant Professor of Law, recently contributed an essay in a The New York Times Newsletter honoring the life and legacy of Rabbi Eli Schlanger.
Rabbi Schlanger was one of 15 people killed in a terror attack last week during a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Australia. Professor Rothschild’s piece, titled “Remembering a Rabbi,” can be found by scrolling down to the middle of the page at this link.
"Eli was uncompromising in his devotion and zealous in his spiritual activism," wrote Rothschild. "One might have expected judgment, or at least a subtle effort to explain my departure in ways that preserved his own certainty. Instead, I never once felt even remotely judged. Our relationship did not cool or narrow; if anything, it deepened over the years."
