To the Cardozo Community,
Over the weekend we have learned that a Cardozo student who was in school on Wednesday has tested positive for COVID-19. The student is doing well and the symptoms have abated since they first appeared.
The student has given us a detailed description of their movements in the building and the identity of those with whom they were in contact. We are reaching out directly to those members of our community with whom the student was in contact last week. The student did not spend time in the lobby, on the third floor or in the library.
We have been in touch with University leadership, which is in frequent and extensive contact with physicians and the NYC Department of Health. If you have any symptoms you should remain at home and monitor your health, call a health care professional or 311, which is the Department of Health’s number for inquiries. And we recommend that everyone, including those who do not have symptoms, continue to monitor their health and, of particular importance, continue to follow the widely prescribed precautions—wash your hands with soap frequently, and practice social distancing. It is important that everyone take precautions to limit contact with others.
As a reminder, you can find information about COVID-19 symptoms and recommended actions here.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China.
We will continue to update you with any information that we learn that will be helpful.
I know this is a very difficult situation. You all have shown tremendous resilience so far and I have no doubt you will continue to do so.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
