Cardozo School of Law is pleased to announce that Merchant & Gould, a national intellectual property law firm with clients in the Northeast region, will fund The Merchant & Gould Intellectual Property Diversity Scholarship to support Cardozo students from diverse backgrounds seeking a career in intellectual property law.
Cardozo’s Intellectual Property & Information Law Program is one of the top ten in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report Rankings. Merchant & Gould selected Cardozo as one of nine schools with recipients of the student scholarships, which will be awarded to one incoming 1L student each year, beginning in Fall 2021.
“As the legal industry continues to grow, Merchant & Gould is thrilled to enable law schools to recruit and support more students typically underrepresented in intellectual property law,” said Andrew L. Jagenow, Partner and Diversity Committee Chair, Merchant & Gould. “Through the scholarships, we are pleased to give resources to students and, by extension, help make our legal community more diverse, inclusive and innovative."
The scholarship will provide a cash gift of $5,000 to one student, selected annually by the law school.
“We are very grateful to Merchant & Gould for their generosity,” said Dean Melanie Leslie. “Cardozo is committed to supporting diversity and this generous gift will help students build careers in the powerful field of Intellectual Property law."
Other law schools receiving the pledge from Merchant & Gould include: University of Tennessee College of Law; Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School; Georgia State University College of Law; Mitchell Hamline School of Law; University of Minnesota Law School; University of Colorado Law School; The George Washington University Law School; and the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law.
