On Tuesday, one of the Indie Film Clinic’s films,“Trans in America: Texas Strong " won the outstanding short documentary trophy at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards. The film follows the story of Kai Shappley, a transgender Texas girl as she and her mother Kimberly fight for Kai’s right to live without discrimination at school and in her community.
"I'm delighted at the film's success," said Professor Michelle Greenberg-Kobrin, the director of the Indie Film Clinic. "Our students, including Adam Rubin, Ting Ting Lu, Alejandro Palma and Erica Ruff, provided transactional and intellectual property legal services to the filmmaker over a period of several semesters, and I am sure that this important piece of visual advocacy will have impact." The film was produced by the ACLU. The Indie Film Clinic is supported by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund.
