
Cardozo Law proudly welcomes five new members of its strong and growing faculty. Professor of Law James (Jamie) Macleod, Associate Professor of Law Aneil Kovvali, Associate Clinical Professor of Law Prianka Nair, and Assistant Professors of Law Jared Mayer and Britta Redwood will officially join the Cardozo faculty this summer.
James (Jamie) Macleod
Professor of Law
Professor Macleod comes to Cardozo from Brooklyn Law School where he taught courses in evidence, statutory interpretation, and torts. He was also the director of the law school’s Center for Law, Language, and Cognition. Prior to joining the Brooklyn Law faculty in 2019, Macleod was an associate in law at Columbia Law School and a law clerk for the Hon. Raymond J. Lohier, Jr. on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Professor Macleod also served as an associate at Williams & Connolly and at Gibson Dunn, where he performed extensive work with mock juries and jury consultants while litigating mass torts and white-collar criminal cases. He earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Aneil Kovvali
Associate Professor of Law
Professor Kovvali comes to Cardozo from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, where his research and teaching focused on corporate law and governance. Prior to joining the Maurer School of Law faculty, Professor Kovvali was a Harry A. Bigelow Teaching Fellow and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School. He previously worked as a litigation associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and clerked for the Honorable Christopher F. Droney on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Professor Kovvali earned his J.D. and B.A. from Harvard University.
Prianka Nair
Associate Clinical Professor of Law
and Co-Director Bet Tzedek Civil Litigation Clinic
Professor Nair joins Cardozo as Co-Director of the Bet Tzedek Civil Litigation Clinic after serving as Assistant Professor of Clinical Law and the Faculty Director of the Disability and Civil Rights Clinic at Brooklyn Law School. Prior to joining the faculty at Brooklyn Law, Professor Nair worked as a public interest attorney at Disability Rights New York, where she conducted abuse and neglect investigations, focusing on access to services in correctional facilities across New York State. She has also litigated cases and led policy initiatives to achieve equal rights for persons with disabilities. Her litigation included cases involving violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Fourteenth Amendment. She has also represented clients in all aspects of guardianship and related proceedings in state and federal court. Professor Nair earned her law degree in Australia and served as a Solicitor for the Australian federal government before completing her LL.M. at Columbia Law School, where she was a James Kent Scholar.
Jared Mayer
Assistant Professor of Law
Professor Mayer joins Cardozo from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a Harry A. Bigelow Teaching Fellow and Lecturer in Law. His research mainly focuses on corporate reorganizations and other domains of private law, such as tort law, bankruptcy law, and the law governing fiduciary duties. Prior to his fellowship, Jared was an associate in the business restructuring group at Ropes & Gray, LLP. In his practice, Jared represented companies, lenders, equity sponsors, and other institutions in an array of in-court and out-of-court restructurings. Prior to that, he served as a law clerk to Justice Barry T. Albin (ret.) of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Jared received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. and M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
Britta Redwood
Assistant Professor of Law
Professor Redwood comes to Cardozo Law from Seton Hall University, where she was an assistant professor at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. Her research and teaching focus on international law, critical legal theory, and reparatory justice. Prior to her appointment at Seton Hall, Professor Redwood taught at the Howard University School of Law and at the New York University School of Law and served as the Interim Director of the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center at Howard Law School. Before teaching, Professor Redwood worked at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, the Strategic Litigation Project at the Atlantic Council, and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. Professor Redwood earned her J.D. from Yale Law School and her B.A. from Princeton University.
