The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law is pleased to announce the establishment of the Judith and William Greenblatt Center for Career Success, made possible by a generous $5 million commitment from Judith and William Greenblatt. The gift will support and expand Cardozo’s Office of Career Services, now named the Judith and William Greenblatt Career Success Center.
The Greenblatts’ transformative contribution, one of the largest alumni gifts in Cardozo’s history, supports the Rise Up for Cardozo campaign, launched in December 2021. The $50 million campaign honors the law school’s upcoming 50th anniversary. Campaign priorities include reducing student debt, fostering exceptional faculty, supporting Cardozo’s outstanding clinical education program, and elevating the Cardozo campus by renovating the law school’s facilities. The Greenblatts have named the lounge in memory of their dear friend Gail M. Cohen ’83, who passed away last year, and was the beloved wife of Board of Overseers member, Eric Cohen ‘83.. Their generous gift brings the total raised so far to more than $46 million.
William “Billy” Greenblatt, a 1982 Cardozo graduate and parent of a 2014 graduate, has served on the Cardozo Board of Overseers since 2011. He and his family have been devoted supporters of the law school.
“We are deeply grateful for this transformative and generous gift,” said Dean Melanie Leslie ’91. “The Greenblatts are creating a lasting legacy that will enhance Cardozo’s career-success program for generations. Billy has been a trusted advisor to me, and I am deeply grateful for his dedication to the law school and our students' success.”
The Greenblatt’s commitment has already enabled the school to hire additional staff and career counselors, contributing to a record 97.4% employment rate for the class of 2024.
“Cardozo is one of the finest law schools in the country. Judy and I want to ensure that every Cardozo student has the support they need to launch a meaningful and successful career,” said Greenblatt. “We know it takes dedication and hard work to make it in today’s world. Our family wants to help Cardozo graduates land the jobs that allow them to hit the ground running. I attribute much of my success to my time at Cardozo. It served as the foundation for all I’ve achieved today. This is an opportunity to give back to the law school that gave so much to me. Our main job is to train and educate young people to become the next generation of great lawyers. It is imperative that we enable all of our students to obtain excellent jobs, period! If we can’t do that, then we have failed at our mission. It is our intent to make sure we thrive and never fail.”
William Greenblatt founded Sterling in 1975, and he is widely regarded as a pioneer in the background screening industry. Under his leadership, Sterling revolutionized how companies hire and retain talent. Following Sterling’s acquisition by Goldman Sachs and subsequent public offering, Greenblatt became chairman. In 2017, he founded Montague Street Private Partners with the goal of acquiring businesses to provide long-term capital and expertise to accelerate business growth.
Greenblatt recently authored Every Day Sucks, a memoir chronicling his journey in transforming a small family business into a $3-billion enterprise. He has shared his insights and inspirational guidance with Cardozo students over the years.
The Judith and William Greenblatt Career Success Center will officially launch this month.
