Cardozo School of Law is a private institution, and The Chutick Law Library is not open to the general public. We do offer access to various groups and visitors as outlined below. For more information or questions about visiting the Law Library, please email lawlibaccess@yu.edu.
Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct faculty receive a wide range of library services, and we are happy to support your teaching. If you are interested in classroom support from a librarian (such as guest lecturing on research for a writing assignment), please contact Olivia Schlinck (olivia.schlinck@yu.edu), Head of Research Instruction. For assistance with course reserves, the library’s collection, or databases, please contact Ellen Drucker-Albert (ellen.druckeralbert@yu.edu).
Visiting Scholars
Cardozo hosts a variety of visiting scholars, such as visiting academics, judges, and attorneys, through several programs. Depending on the nature of their program, visiting scholars may receive circulation privileges and Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law subscription research services. If you are at Cardozo as a Visiting Scholar and have questions about library services, please email lawref@yu.edu or chat with us.
Cardozo Israeli Judges Visiting Scholar Program
Currently sitting Israeli judges visiting Cardozo for their sabbatical as part of the Visiting Scholar Program have physical access to the library. They do not have borrowing privileges and do not get Westlaw, Lexis, or Bloomberg Law subscription research services. For more information about the Cardozo Israeli Judges Visiting Scholar Program, please see Cardozo’s Visiting Research Scholars page.
To arrange a visit, please contact our International Programs staff.
Guests of Cardozo Faculty
Cardozo faculty interested in obtaining library visiting privileges for a colleague of another academic institution or of other distinction should email lawlibaccess@yu.edu to arrange access.
Yeshiva University Community
Yeshiva University alumni, faculty, and students are welcome to visit and use the law library. You must present a current YU ID or Alumni ID to access the law library. Yeshiva University community members may check out circulating print materials, have access to select law library databases (excluding Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law), and may use the library spaces excluding study rooms.
For current YU faculty and students, any interlibrary loan requests must be made through your home library (e.g., Stern or Pollack).
Members of the Bar
Attorneys seeking access to the Law Library to use specific library materials, should email lawlibaccess@yu.edu to arrange access. Please include the title and author of the library materials you would like to access.
Bar Study Access Policies
The law library offers library access passes for July bar exam study. Passes are not available for February bar exam study. Interested students must contact the law library at lawlibaccess@yu.edu.
Once we receive your email, we will add your name to our mailing list. We will send detailed instructions to students on the mailing list, such as how to purchase and pick up your passes.
The passes will cost $50 each, payable by cash or check, in person at Cardozo Law Library.
Cooper Union Students, Faculty, and Staff
Students, Faculty, and Staff of Cooper Union are permitted access to the Law Library with a current school ID. Access is not permitted during reading and examination periods. Please check the Cardozo School of Law academic calendar for these dates.
Non-Cardozo Law Students and Students Attending Other Universities
Students from area law schools and colleges may have on-site use of the library through various consortia. Access may be granted by the day, week, month, or semester. If you are a current student of good standing at another law school, contact your own academic or law library to see what arrangements may be made.
After speaking with your school’s librarian, students must make arrangements to secure a pass at least 48 hours in advance by contacting Cardozo’s Reference Desk. The Reference Desk will be available to process these requests Monday-Thursday 10am-5pm and Friday 10am-12pm.
However, access requests are not accepted and are not granted during reading and examination periods. These dates can be found by looking at the academic calendar.
Please contact the Head of Access & Circulation (lawlibaccess@yu.edu) with any questions.
All visitors to the Cardozo School of Law must first check-in and present a school ID and an access letter at the Security Desk.
