In June, Dean’s Distinguished Scholar and Honor Roll Designations will be awarded. In ordinary years, the Dean’s Distinguished Scholar title is given to 1L students who are ranked in the top 10% of the class. Honor Roll designations are given to 1L and 2L students whose grades place them in the top 15% of their classes.
Dean’s Distinguished Scholars
This year, in recognition of the pandemic conditions and the resulting mandatory P/F grading scheme that is in place for the spring semester, the Dean’s Distinguished Scholars designation will be awarded to up to 13% of the 1L class. The methodology for determining Dean’s Distinguished Scholars is as follows: 1L students whose grades up to and through December 2019 placed them in the top 10% of their class will be designated as Dean’s Distinguished Scholars, regardless of their spring semester exam performance, in recognition of the possibility that slippage in performance during the spring semester might be attributable to pandemic-related conditions. The remainder of the Dean’s Distinguished Scholars will be designated by evaluating students’ performance throughout the entire year, with proportionate weight given to evaluations by spring semester teachers.
Rankings and Honor Roll
The Honor Roll designation for 1Ls and 2Ls will be determined in the same way: up to 20% of the class will earn the Honor Roll designation. 1L students whose grades through December 2019 rank them in the top 15% will be on the honor roll, and additional numbers of honor roll designations will be awarded after evaluating students’ performance throughout the entire year, including the faculty’s spring performance evaluations.
• The Class of 2020 will be ranked based on grades earned through Winter term 2020.
• The Class of 2021 will be ranked based on grades earned through Winter term 2020.
• The Classes of 2021 and 2022 will be ranked again at the end of the fall 2020 semester.
• Additional Honor Roll designations will be made after the fall 2020 semester. 2L and 3L students whose graded credits through December 2020 place them in the top 15% of their respective class will receive the designation.
