Cardozo School of Law is pleased to announce that Gowri Cheepurupalli and Zoe Sheppard have been selected as the 2024 recipients of the Mark Whitlock Scholarship.
The Whitlock Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Mark Whitlock ‘10, who passed away from brain cancer while a student at Cardozo. It is designed to recognize an outstanding, third-year J.D. student each year who, through the force of individual effort, energy, spirit, and initiative, contributes to and/or expands and strengthens student life and community at Cardozo. This is the second year that the scholarship has been awarded to two Cardozo students.
“Both Gowri and Zoe have clearly demonstrated the characteristics identified by this scholarship, and I know I speak for many when I say it has been an absolute privilege and joy getting to know them through their time here at Cardozo,” said Jenn Kim, Dean of Students.
Gowri Cheepurupalli’s enthusiasm and infectious spirit for Cardozo are well-known amongst the Cardozo community, most notably through her three years of service in the Student Bar Association (SBA), first as the May class Senator during her 1L year, then as Vice President, and most recently as President during her 3L year.
Zoe Sheppard’s dedication to the advancement of the Cardozo community is widely known on campus. Zoe is a member of the Gates Scholars inaugural class, has been a Gates Scholars Ambassador and mentor since her 2L year, and has been instrumental in developing programming to advance the program’s mission. In addition to working with the Office of Admissions with recruitment efforts, Zoe has served as Co-President of the Minority Law Students Association (MLSA), a Public Service Scholar, a Teaching Assistant for Legal Writing, and Staff Editor and Inclusion Committee Chair of the Moot Court Honor Society.
