Cardozo’s Class of 2025’s “May class,” getting a head start on their 1L year, began their law school journey on May 18. There are 51 students in the class, many from the tri-state area, and also hailing from Florida, Massachusetts, Missouri, Connecticut, Louisiana, Texas, California, Iowa, Maryland and Georgia.
“We were thrilled to host our first in-person May Orientation in three years,” said Dean of Admissions Jeanne Estilo Widerka. “Our May 2022 entering class is an accomplished and enthusiastic group - we are excited to welcome them to the Cardozo community!”
The class attended a four-day orientation program where they toured the building and met with faculty and administrators. Their first class was Elements of Law with Professor Leslie Newman. Contracts and Criminal Law will also be part of their summer studies.
The students come from approximately 40 colleges and undergraduate universities and several students already have advanced degrees, in Education, Fine Arts, English, Applied Statistics and Decision Making, Accounting, Biomedical Engineering and one student with a dual M.A. in French Studies and Global Journalism. One student was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to serve as a cultural ambassador and teach English to Colombian Undergraduate students.
Several students have tested the waters already in the legal world and have worked as judicial interns, legal assistants and researchers. Some have worked in the public sector organizations such as for the Bronx DA’s office and private law firms, with varied practice areas including: intellectual property, employment law and real estate law. A number of students come from business backgrounds including one with a career in fashion management; a content coordinator for an e-commerce business; a royalties analyst for a leading independent entertainment company; a public relations specialist and account executive; a financial planner; a CPA and senior audit associate at an internationally renowned accounting firm.
