Sara Luz Estela is a civil rights lawyer at Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel LLP where she represents individuals, classes, and organizations in cases involving, among other things, misconduct by police and correctional officers, discrimination in housing and employment, and sexual assault and harassment. She earned her law degree from Stanford Law School, her bachelor’s from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. Before starting her legal career, she was a high school English Teacher in Baltimore, Maryland. During law school she interned at LatinoJustice, the Santa Clara County DA’s office, the Bronx Defenders, the Federal Public Defender for the District of Puerto Rico, and Simpson Thacher. After graduating, she was a law clerk to Judge Jenny Rivera on the New York State Court of Appeals, and then an associate at Simpson Thacher, before clerking for Judge Victor Marrero on the Southern District of New York. Sara has served on the junior board of LatinoJustice PRLDEF and the Civil Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association. Sara is a proud Nuyorican and native of the Lower East Side.
