Nyasa is the Director of Immigration Initiatives for Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS), a public defender office in Brooklyn, New York. She also a member of the Immigrant Leadership Council at the New York Immigration Coalition and an awardee of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Reciprocal Exchange Component. Nyasa graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2011, where she received the Public Law Advocacy Week “Inspire” Award and Stanley H. Beckerman Public Interest Award. She graduated magna cum laude from State University of New York at New Paltz with a B.A. degree in both English and Black Studies and participated in Bard College’s Globalization and International Affairs (BGIA) Program.
