Katrina is the Deputy Chief of Training for the Major Case Unit of the New York City Law Department's Family Court Division. In this role, she creates and presents training courses in advanced litigation topics to members of the Division's Major Case Unit. The Major Case Unit handles some of the most complex and serious cases within the Division, including matters involving firearm possession, shootings, gun and knife-point robberies, residential burglaries, assaults and robberies resulting in serious physical injury, as well as homicides and attempted murders. Katrina also assists in overseeing the Division's DNA practice.
Katrina has served as a guest lecturer to members of the New York City Police Department, the New York City Department of Probation, the County Attorneys' Association of the State of New York, and the New York City Bar Association.
Katrina began her professional career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel, investigating and prosecuting juvenile delinquency matters in Kings and Queens counties. She eventually joined the Major Case Unit and has prosecuted hundreds of cases, including conducting numerous trials and suppression hearings.
Katrina also became a member of the Special Victims Unit, handling sexual assault and physical abuse cases involving vulnerable victims, including children under nine years of age. She received specialized training in forensic interviewing and worked closely with the Brooklyn Child Abuse Squad and other members of the multi-disciplinary team within the Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center to investigate these sensitive matters through a wholistic approach.
Katrina was subsequently promoted to Senior Counsel, and thereafter became an Assistant Borough Chief, responsible for overseeing the Special Victims Unit in Brooklyn.
Katrina was the 2015 recipient of the prestigious New York City Bar Association Municipal Affairs Award.
Katrina received her Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Fordham University. Katrina is admitted to the New York State Bar and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
