Professor Smith currently serves as a Court Attorney in Queens County Civil Court. Prior to this role, she spent nine years as a Senior Attorney with the Legal Aid Society, Juvenile Rights Practice, where she advocated on behalf of children and families.
She earned both her B.A. and J.D. from St. John’s University.
Professor Smith has published two articles:
- “The Child Welfare System Is Failing Children, Separating Black and Brown Families”
- “Secondary Trauma at Work: Why We Experience It and How We Cope”
These works were featured through Zealous and Teen Vogue, highlighting her commitment to systemic reform and attorney wellness.
In addition to her legal career, Professor Smith is actively engaged in leadership and service. She is the President of the St. John’s School of Law Alumni of Color Chapter, a Mock Trial Coach at St. John’s School of Law, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
