People are signing up fast for other services like Mastodon, which take away the need for a middleman company to store data. It runs on open-source code and gives power back to its users. Blockchain technology is helping this de-centralized system work to protect user data.
Professor Wright commented, “If that system is built and the technology is developed some of the issues we’ve seen related to data breaches, access to people’s personal info — that would potentially improve."
