March 14, 2017 Law360: The search is on for a new U.S. Attorney for the southern district of New York. Potential candidates need to be able to understand the office’s autonomy, according to outside observers. In a Law360 article March 14 about the search, Professor Jessica Roth said, “The tradition has been to appoint somebody of tremendous integrity and independence and to let them do their job.” She notes that the ability to uphold that autonomous culture is typically sought in a Southern District nominee.

Candidates currently being considered for the position include Mark Mukasey, Cardozo Law's Class of ’93. He worked for the Southern District earlier in his career and currently works in private practice.

The position was previously held by Preet Bharara. Bharara was fired last month by the Trump Administration along with 46 other U.S. Attorneys appointed during President Obama's administration.
