Current Job: Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center

En route to graduating from Cardozo in 2009, Kari Cohen interned for a number of law firms, including Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, and other entities such as the National Hockey League and Blue Equity, a private equity firm which managed SFX Tennis and Joel Segal's Worldwide Football Agency. Ms. Cohen was also the recipient of Cardozo's Floersheimer Fellowship for Constitutional Democracy. These experiences exposed her sports law and invaluable mentors such as Jessica Berman, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at the NHL, and Jeff Gewirtz, Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and Chief Legal Officer for the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center.

After graduating Cardozo in 2009, Kari spent two years working at Hughes Hubbard in its New Media, Entertainment and Technology practice group. In 2011, Kari was hired as Associate Counsel for the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center. Soon after, Kari was promoted to the position of Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center. "As a lawyer for both a team and an arena, on any given day I can be working on sponsorship agreements, suite license agreements, ticketing agreements, programming agreements for sporting events and concerts, radio broadcast agreements, advertising agreements, vendor agreements... you get the picture!".

Kari is at the forefront of newly emerging legal questions and issues pertinent to sports law, and appreciative of this unique positioning: "It is both an exciting and challenging time in sports law that lends itself to new opportunities for those fortunate enough to practice in this field". Kari is also a member of the Sports Lawyers Association and is the New York State Regional Captain of its Outreach Committee.
