Bringing Law To Life: New Guidelines for Solitary Confinement

A lawsuit filed by Professor Alex Reinert, along with the New York Civil Liberties Union and the law firm Morrison & Foerster, has led to far-reaching changes in the way state prisons use solitary confinement. The settlement with New York State will reduce the number of inmates held in solitary confinement, eliminate solitary as punishment for all minor violations, limit the duration of most solitary sentences, and increase rehabilitative features in solitary and end most of its dehumanizing aspects.

Forbes - Vaxman will be a speaker at a conference Thursday night at Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law that will feature executives from several other sharing-economy services as well as Michael Costonis, executive director in charge of insurance at Accenture consultants. The conference was organized by Kai Falkenberg, a visiting professor at Cardozo and until recently the head media lawyer at Forbes.
