The Psychological Effects of Solitary Confinement
Join us for an exciting discussion with the following panelists:
Sarah Kerr, Esq: Staff Attorney, Prisoners' Rights Project, Legal Aid Society. Litigates the inappropriate use of solitary confinement of prisoners with mental illness.
Dr. Robert Cohen, MD: Monitors the experience of prisoners in solitary confinement. Involved in current litigation challenging the continued use of solitary confinement at Pelican Bay State Prison, CA.
Dr. Teresa Hurst, PhD: Clinical Psychologist, Coming Home Program, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. Conducts individual and group psychotherapy for individuals who were held in solitary confinement.
Ismael Nazario: Held in solitary confinement as a juvenile on Rikers Island. Is now the Youth Services Case Manager at the Center for Community Alternatives.
